Latino/a Voices in Performance Activism (a college course at the University of Texas at El Paso)

In the spring semester of 2016, our Director had a proposal accepted to teach the first course (in our knowledge) on performance activism at a higher education institution in the US. Crosslisted between the departments of Chicano/a Studies and Theatre and Dance (Women Studies was added on the list for 2017!) this course investigates the use of performance as a creative response to local and global social problems. The course engages students in performance-based activities and community interventions that are facilitated by in2improv. The course was created with the support of pioneers and leaders in the performance activism movement and we are looking forward to the second iteration of the class in the Spring of 2017!

SFAI 140: An Evening of Creativity + Conversation
The Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI) organizes a series of evenings that bring together artists and innovative thinkers to do 140 second presentations around a common topic. The topic for the July event was immigration and we were invited to share the work we are doing on the border. Check out this short but powerful performance form our Director!

Improvising Here! Profiles in Practice (Colloquium, Guelph, ON - Canada)

Our Founders were invited to present (for the second time) at one of the leading conferences about improvisation and social practice. The 2016 Guelph Jazz Festival Colloquium organized by the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation (IICSI) brought together scholars, students, non-profit organizations and community members to create dialogues about how research on improvisation manifests in a variety of academic, performance and social outreach practices.
Performing the World 2016 (Conference, New York, NY)
For the third time, our founders were invited to NYC to present at the international conference Performing the World. This year's theme "Can we perform our way to power?" prompted a presentation where they reflected on in2improv's journey on its 5-year anniversary from a performance duo to a binational organization. It was here where we premiered An in2improv documentary - a short film that showcases our work on the border, filmed and edited by our own Laura Bustillos Jáquez, who was also invited to present her work at the conference.

For us, the highlight of the conference was being invited by Chris Street, the Cheif Development and Operating Officer of the All Stars Project (the organization that hosts the conference), to join the All Stars Alliance, a new coalition of organizations around the world who are leading the performance activism movement in their local communities.
