Cattleya in 2016

redmoonwhitemoonbluemoon
We had the opportunity of being involved in a powerful performance piece that our Director conceived and led with two other artists. Bringing together dance, visual image and poetry, redmoonwhitemoonbluemoon explores concepts of the divine feminine and seeks to promote the normalization of menstruation. This 2-part performance was attended by over 60 people and several of our volunteers were instrumental in its production. Follow this link for more information.

No Fixed Address - Improvisation Workshop
Picture
In November the El Paso YWCA held their annual fundraiser No Fixed Address, an event to raise awareness about our homeless community. We were invited to facilitate a 2-hour performance workshop in which we played games and improvised together (community members and members from our homeless population) followed by a performance experience led by two amazing women that have experienced homelessness and domestic violence. During the week prior to the event, we met with these two women to prepare them to lead (with our support) the second half of the workshop, sharing and directing a performance of their own experience. The workshop was attended by over 4o people.

Weekly program at Sin Violencia A.C.
Picture
In December, we completed 15 months doing weekly visits to Sin Violencia A.C. - a shelter for women and their children in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. In these visits, we offer 2-hour workshops where we dance, play, act, write and draw with the women while exploring and creating new performances with them. The shelter houses 8-15 women at a time and they each stay for an average of 3 months. With this format, in 2016 we impacted at least 40 women. We are looking forward to make the program stronger in 2017 and opening a monthly open workshop at Sin Violencia's public office.
